The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires that all health insurance issuers offering products in the individual and small-group market to provide coverage of certain “essential health benefits.”
As of September 23, 2010, the Affordable Care Act requires health plans that provide dependent coverage to make that coverage available for children until they turn 26. Until January, 2014, grandfathered plans need not offer this coverage to dependent children who are eligible for “other employer-sponsored coverage.”
